How to Reset: Your Velvet Mat Guide to Starting Fresh

Life has a way of getting… loud. Your to-do list turns into a scroll. Your phone pings like it’s in a competition. People, projects, and problems start pulling you in a hundred directions. And suddenly, you realize you’ve been running on low battery for way too long. (something I'm also working on!)

I’m here to tell you: you don’t have to wait for a vacation or a meltdown to reset. You can do it right now, exactly where you are.

At The Velvet Mat, we believe in the art of the intentional reset. Those little (and big) rituals that bring you back to yourself. Here’s how we make it happen:

🌿 Move Your Energy

Your body is basically a rechargeable battery. Movement, whether it’s a sweaty rooftop flow, a gentle morning stretch, or a spontaneous kitchen dance party, clears the static and recharges your system.

Yoga is my favorite reset button because it connects body, breath, and mind in one go. You can shake off the stress in your shoulders, twist away tension, and walk out feeling like someone just hit “refresh” on your soul. Hell yeah!

🧘 Find the Quiet

Meditation isn’t about having no thoughts, it’s about creating space between them. It’s where you remember you’re more than your calendar, your inbox, or your grocery list.

This one’s still a work in progress for me but that’s the beauty of it.Meditation apps and yoga classes have been my go-to reset tools lately.

The real game changer, though? Learning from people who really live and breathe this stuff. Right now, I’m soaking up every bit of wisdom from my experienced yogi besties (shoutout to one of our Velvet Mat teachers Courtney!) while we’re in Costa Rica on a yoga teacher intensive training retreat with Beach Town Yoga.

Turns out, finding the quiet gets a whole lot easier when you’re surrounded by jungle, ocean air, and people who speak your soul’s language.

Whatever your style, let the quiet in. That’s where clarity shows up.

🛑 Set Boundaries Like a Boss

Boundaries are the ultimate act of self-care and the hardest for most of us to set.

Say no without guilt. Put your phone on “Do Not Disturb” and mean it dammit. Protect your calendar like it’s sacred (because it is).

A reset isn’t just about what you do it’s about what you stop doing.

💜 Do Something Just for You

Not for your job. Not for your family. Not for your Instagram feed. Just. For. You.

Take yourself out for coffee. Buy fresh flowers for no reason. Spend a morning at the beach with no agenda except watching the waves.

The more joy you let yourself have, the more energy you’ll have to give.

🖤 Make it a Ritual

The magic isn’t in the grand gesture, it’s in the repetition. Little resets, practiced often, keep you from hitting burnout in the first place.

For me?

  • A few deep breaths before I plan my day after writing in my gratitude journal.

  • Lighting a candle or incense before I roll out my mat (or check email!)

  • Choosing a playlist that matches my mood before I start to move or clean my space (cleaning dance party anyone?)

Your Velvet Reset Challenge

This week, pick one thing that helps you recharge; yoga, meditation, dancing, saying no, or just taking time for yourself and actually do it. Notice how different you feel.

Because the truth is, you don’t need a full moon or a new year to start fresh. You can reset anytime you decide to.

Come for the movement. Stay for the magic. Reset as often as you need.

See you on the mat

Just finished a beautiful class hosted by the Velvet Mat and feeling so perfectly balanced, relaxed and happy. Hooli was our yoga instructor. She moved us through a gentle flow that was well led and an ideal combo for an evening class! Also enjoyed the playlist! Then shop owner Erica handed us each a flower for a guided blossom meditation that was such a sweet ending! Will definitely attend another Flower Flow & Meditation again at The Roaming Petal. Velvet Mat has been hosting some fun and unique yoga mashup events ..definitely recommend trying one!

Crystal is my favorite yoga teacher in St Pete! We started going to her community/brewery events and are now regulars at her Monday night class. She has the best music, vibes, and flow of any yoga teacher in town! Take her classes, you'll be glad you did!

Today was my second time ever doing yoga! I won’t lie, I am very ADD, and wasn’t a fan of my first experience, in Texas. I decided to go today with friends and I absolutely fell in love. Her choices of music, to flow with the poses, movements (not sure of correct yoga vernacular) was great! It helped me relax and keep going, all at the same time. Towards the end, with a cool down, her voice was so soothing, and I felt very relaxed and motivated. The stretches were very helpful too! I look forward to going back again sometime! Every instructor needs to be like Crystal.
